The Gas Tank Restoration Rule

THE RULE

Return a borrowed vehicle with at least the fuel level it had when you received it.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Borrowing transportation does not include donating an orange warning light to the owner.

WHEN IT DOES NOT APPLY

1. The owner expressly refuses reimbursement
2. An emergency prevents a safe fuel stop
3. The vehicle is electric and both parties agree on the return charge

EXAMPLES

• VIOLATION: You borrow a truck at three-quarters full and return it blinking on empty.
• NO VIOLATION: You replace the used fuel and add a car wash after hauling dirty equipment.
