The Shotgun Claim Rule
THE RULE
A shotgun claim counts only when the vehicle is visible, the trip is beginning, and the caller is ready to leave.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Front-seat rights cannot be reserved from the shower, another zip code, or last Tuesday. Claims require proximity and pants.
WHEN IT DOES NOT APPLY
- A passenger needs the front seat for mobility, health, or size
- The driver assigns seats
- A parent, elder, or guest receives courtesy priority
EXAMPLES
- VIOLATION: You text 'shotgun' from upstairs while everyone else waits beside the car.
- NO VIOLATION: The group reaches the driveway together and the first clear call wins.
