The Team Loyalty Standard

THE RULE

Once a man seriously claims a team, he may not switch allegiance merely because another team starts winning.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fandom includes terrible seasons, questionable trades, and saying 'next year' with a straight face. Championships are not a free-agent market.

WHEN IT DOES NOT APPLY

1. A hometown move creates a legitimate second team
2. The franchise relocates or acts against a deeply held value
3. The original allegiance was childhood coercion and is renounced before a winning season

EXAMPLES

• VIOLATION: You buy the league champion's hat every February and call it lifelong loyalty.
• NO VIOLATION: You complain about your 4–13 team all season and still wear the jersey on Sunday.
