The No-Blocking Rule
THE RULE
Do not deliberately sabotage a friend's respectful conversation with someone who is clearly interested in him.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Protecting a friend from disaster is loyalty. Creating the disaster because you are bored is a technical foul.
WHEN IT DOES NOT APPLY
- You are stopping harassment, dishonesty, or unsafe behavior
- The friend asks for an exit
- The other person asks you for help ending the conversation
EXAMPLES
- VIOLATION: You invent an embarrassing story solely to wreck a conversation that is going well.
- NO VIOLATION: You interrupt with the agreed rescue phrase after your friend signals that he wants out.
